Bed Bugs- Beware!!
Bed bugs are those small wingless insects which slowly invade our
homes and suck blood at night. They increase slowly in huge amounts and
are usually found in places like residential flats, furniture,
mattresses etc. The scientific name of Bed bugs is Cimex lectularius
Linnaeus (Cimicidae). It is like a nightmare if even we have a single
bed bug in our house, because it is very difficult to demolish them on
our own.
What are these Bed bugs and how do we recognize them?
They are just like other small insects, but cannot fly as they are
loaded with blood within them. They are oval shaped and have a flattened
top and are hardly a quarter of an inch in size. They are

brown black in
color and the eggs are extremely small to view it with naked eyes. They
are also found in the crevices of the fold of mattresses. If they are
disturbed, they try to rescue themselves by hiding in the cracks and
holes of walls or anything such possible.
How do these bugs affect us?
They usually do not harm us. Their bites are not different than ay
other insect bites. It is extremely difficult to get hold on them. They
usually come out in the night in the darkness when all are asleep. They
sip blood slowly and at the same time inject small tiny amount of their
saliva which results in a reddish small lump on the skin. This reacts
with vigorous and irritating itching. S soon as we realize about the
existence of the bugs in our rooms, it is advisable to apply proper skin
ointments or herbal cures like Aloe Vera to soothe the excitement.
Despite of any thing said about them, they do not transmit anything
infectious.
How to get rid of them?
I wish, it would be easy for me to say that they can be
demolished easily. Yes, once they are into our house, it is very
difficult to cope up with them. And at the same time, it is almost
impossible to
prevent them, because they move around everywhere. The
most important point to keep in mind in regards to the bed bugs is
“Clutter”. The more of it, the more you invite them. So, it is always
advisable to clear the clutter, so they don’t have any place to hide.
Vacuum the place thoroughly. Tape up all the possible open areas so,
they don’t move in to them. The walls with cracked areas should be
scrubbed well with a stiff brush and necessary medicines. Carpets and
such furry items comprise of steam wash to get rid of the bugs. The beds
should be placed in such a way, that they are not anywhere touched to
the wall and the frame of its legs should be placed in a bowl of mineral
oil. The Bed bug inspection should be done at regular intervals, to
prevent them from occurring again. The best way to get rid of these bugs
is to get a pest control done by professionals. Proper measures should
be taken for them and all the affected things should be inspected
properly and cleaned by the proper medicines. If necessary the room
modifications should also be done.
Bed bugs cannot manage to survive in extreme heat. So, they can be
demolished by the dry steam or moisture steamers which have a
temperature of around 100-120 degrees Fahrenheit or more. Once the
unwanted and affected clutter is collected, it is advisable to discard
them properly and not just throw it open as that has the full chances of
spreading again. It is extremely important to demolish the bugs
completely for the wellness of human health too.
